This week we continue our summer series “One Giant Leap” exploring the golden age of spaceflight, when mankind took the first steps toward the stars.
After mastering the basics of launching rockets and controlled flight through atmospheric extremes, project Mercury served as the testbed for the subsequent Gemini and lunar-capable Apollo missions, incrementally improving NASA’s ability to strap astronauts to missiles and send them to outer space to then perform increasingly complex maneuvers in the frontier of low Earth orbit. Join Standley Lake Stargazing for an in-depth look at the historic Mercury and Gemini programs and the people that made it possible.
Reminder: Our Thursday evening programs continue throughout the year. Send an email to contact@standleylakestargazing.com if you’d like to join the mailing list and receive notifications about our weekly programs.
