This week we continue our summer series “One Giant Leap” exploring the golden age of spaceflight, when mankind took the first steps toward the stars.
Gemini 8, crewed by Neil Armstrong and Dave Scott, was to be an ambitious experimental flight that would test critical functions necessary to future missions. Things spun out of control (literally!) when attempting to dock with their Agena rocket during a rendezvous exercise, forcing an emergency landing after a harrowing ordeal to regain control. Join Standley Lake Stargazing for a detailed look at this incredible story, along with footage from the mission!
